First of all, let’s start off with a truism: pets are the best. They are smart, silly, interesting and so lovable. They make our lives happier and more fulfilled. I’ve heard occasionally that there are people out there that dislike animals. However, I believe that those are some mythical creatures. It can’t be true, right? Whatever the case, I think all of us (or most of us) can agree that becoming a new pet parent is a very exciting event. But it is not all fun and games. Owning a pet comes with a bunch of responsibilities.
Even though pets have been a part of human’s lives for a while now, the things have changed. We’re putting more effort into making our pet’s lives as best as possible. This is why there’s a new hot benefit in the corporate world- time off for every new pet parent.
When you get a new pet, you need some time to adjust to each other. You and your pet need to get to know each other. There is a lot going on in a household with a new furry friend. Your pet needs to learn where to sleep, where (and when) to eat, where to go to the bathroom, etc. All of this takes some time.
Brett Podolsky, the co-founder of The Farmer’s Dog salutes this trend explaining that the most important time to bond with your pet is in the beginning. Your pet doesn’t know who you are, and it’s on you to teach your new family addition that you’re the one who’s responsible for them.
We hope that his trend will catch on sooner rather than later because this might be the push in the right direction for all the people that are thinking about getting a new furry friend. Of course, we can’t guarantee that this applies to people with exotic pets such as snakes or tarantulas. Exotic pet owners might sit this one out. Sorry guys.
