Everyone’s heard of a nurse, teacher, cashier, etc. These are pretty conventional jobs and we are aware of the fact that they are out there. Some of us dream of doing these jobs as kids. I always wanted to be a veterinarian because I am a big fan of animals and loved playing doctor, so it was the best of the two worlds. My dream didn’t come true, but I wonder if anyone dreams of being a professional cuddler? Or maybe an odor tester? If you’ve never heard of these, you’re not the only one. We list you 10 unorthodox jobs we bet you never thought about.
1. Roller coaster painter
People either absolutely love or absolutely hate roller coasters. There’s rarely an in-between. I’ve thought myself about the process of building it, but rarely about the people that paint it. However, when you think about it, all of the roller coasters are painted. Nevertheless, we rarely think about people that do it. But yes, they do exist. And roller coaster game would be very different if it weren’t for them.
2. Dog and cat food tester
If you think that’s a dog or cat thing to do, you’d be surprised. We all love our furry friends and want the best for them. Some dogs and cats have some favorite brands of food and reject eating any other brand. But do you know who’s responsible for that mesmerizing taste? Companies hire people to taste the food. And not to be worried, people mostly spit it out instead of swallowing them, but hey do test the taste, texture, and consistency. So the next time you go and feed your pet, remember that before your pet, there was human that liked that taste first.
3. Professional Netflix Viewer
Talking about a dream job. Now, maybe testing pet’s food isn’t right up your alley, but this seems like a pretty sweet deal. Netflix hires people to binge watch their shows and rate them afterward. Now I know that after a long day of I work there’s nothing more satisfying than snuggling in my jammies and watching my favorite show. Making it into a career seems almost like a dream come true. But it is smart to ask ourselves: should we really mix business with pleasure?
4. Professional cuddler
Some people are not very touchy-feely and have a very limited circle of people that are allowed to touch them. However, some people really enjoy human touch. In fact, they enjoy it so much that they would hire a person to cuddle with them. To some people, this is a very intimate matter and they wouldn’t ever pay someone to cuddle with them, but not all people. Some are willing to give some bucks for some extra snuggles. Thus the professional cuddlers.
5. Color expert
If you love colors and have a thing for visual aesthetics, this may be just the job for you. Color experts work with designers of all kinds. They decide on the colors of fabrics, walls, furniture; basically everything. Their job field is pretty wide as almost everything that exists needs to be designed. As in the real world, and in the digital as well.
6. Odor tester
We are surrounded by different odors all the time. Something smells great, something smells terrible. But if you think of all the things you buy, the vast majority of them has a certain smell. As an odor tester, you’re testing out the smells of these products and figuring out how to change it to (mostly) more pleasant odor. You can work in the food, perfume, or medical industry; basically everywhere.
7. Pick-Up Artist
Imagine being paid to pick up women/men and teach others to do the same. It is most popular among men who are trying to find what is it that takes to woo a woman. They teach seminars, get in the field and show them first hand how to attract a potential mate. It used to be a secret community, but they’re not so secret anymore. This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase mixing business with pleasure.
8. Professional bed warmer
No one likes a cold bed (well maybe in summer, but generally speaking). This is why you can hire someone to warm your bed for you. A professional bed warmer will snuggle up in your bed and keep it warm for you. That way, when you decide to go to sleep, your bed will be just the perfect temperature. Among all the unorthodox jobs that exist, this comes pretty close to the top.
9. Chicken sexer
Before you jump to any conclusion, just wait a second. It’s not what you think. A chicken sexer’s job is to determine the sex of the chickens. This is very handy on big farms where there are lots of chicken. And that pretty much sums it up.
10. Professional mourner
Some people have the talent to cry on cue. If you are one of these people, you can always get a job as a professional mourner. So if you weren’t sure which direction you wanted your career to take, maybe these unorthodox jobs gave you a new idea?
