Your knees are weak and your palms are sweaty, but this isn’t one of the Eminem’s songs, you just have a scheduled business call. You’re not the only one. Many people struggle with phone calls, and talking to someone over the phone is among their worst fears.

When it’s a private matter, you can often wiggle out of it. However, work is a little different. Sometimes you’ll have to jump on a call, but sometimes you can avoid them. Of course, it’s not advisable to make a practice out of it. But if you’re having an off day, there are ways you can get out of those dreaded phone calls. We give you 3 possible excuses.

If you are afraid you will forget everything that’s been said, you can always use it as an excuse. Of course, you can’t put it like that. This is a great way to excuse yourself out of the call, having something in writing really is a great way to get back over it afterward.

This is a great way to avoid call if you think that you’ll be asked something you don’t know. You can always do some research and find the answers you need.

Your reports will be more detailed, and of course, if need be, you can schedule an additional call if necessary.

3. You’re really busy right now

Sometimes, you’ll be up your nose at work and the last thing you’ll want to add to that bunch will be a business phone call. Surely, you can’t say that. But what you can say is:

Of course, we don’t have to emphasize to offer an additional call if necessary. Regardless of how much we hate them, phone calls are still very important. There will be times these excuses will work, but at times, they won’t. And at other times, you shouldn’t even try to avoid them. You might ask yourself:

When you’re communicating via email, it’s a lot easier to interpret something the wrong way. If the matter is serious, you shouldn’t rely on emails. The higher the steaks, the wiser it is to do it over a call (if you can’t do it in person).

Calls can be stressful because they are fast-paced and there’s a lot of pressure that’s on your shoulders. If you’ve been working on the subject with some of your coworkers, try to include them if you can. You will feel more comfortable because you won’t be handling all the pressure on your own.

Practice makes perfect

Even though you hate phone calls, the bottom line is-the more you do them, the less nervous you’ll be. And it’s true when they say: practice makes perfect.
